Audio Transcription is nothing but the transcription of audio files into text format. The format of the audio files is usually digital like au, wav, mp3 etc. Some well established transcription companies are also known to accept recordings in the form of magnetic tapes and cassettes. As the name goes, the transcription of any kind of audio recording is termed as audio transcription. Such a definition makes audio transcription an extremely general term within which nearly all kinds of transcription paradigms can be included.
Within industry circles, the exact definition of audio transcription is still unclear. An independent organization has stated that, besides transcription of videotapes, audio transcription does not include recordings for medical transcriptions. Transcriptioning for audio recordings of media companies, universities etc. can be categorized as audio transcription.
Notwithstanding the present buzz associated with the transcriptioning industry, it has to be stated that it is really not some new sunrise industry, as is generally presumed. Transcription companies have provided their services since the 70s and the 80s. The reason why it is generating so much hype is that the transcription industry has changed from being a back office activity to a universally acknowledged success story of the forces of globalization.
The transcriptoning industry today attracts capital worth millions of dollars. Earlier, most companies did their own transcriptioning or utilized the services of a local transcriptioning company that specialized in a particular domain of transcriptioning. The company itself consisted of a workforce that was local and operated as per the directions of their head office. Now, things have changed radically.
Transcription companies have now become more general in their services and they outsource their work to cut costs. As common knowledge goes, it is the internet that is responsible for making this possible. With general transcription companies replacing specialized ones, they have started to be identified as the single destination for all their needs pertaining to transcription .
